Iceland is a small country with an even smaller population, so traveling through much of it provides a peaceful feeling of emptiness. This is especially true, though, in the most northwest portion of the country, called the West Fjords. Although there are dozens of villages in the area, the population of the entire area is under 8,000, and accordingly, one can frequently drive long distances without seeing another vehicle. It was on a drive on a dirt road through the West Fjords that I came upon a stunning waterfall immediately next to the road. The cascades shown here represent a small portion of this waterfall.
