The Maroon Bells are touted as the most photographed spot in Colorado. I'm not sure this is correct, but they are absolutely beautiful. Located a mere half hour from Aspen, Colorado, the Maroon Bells loom over appropriately named Maroon Lake, and are a sight to behold, especially at sunrise. I got lucky with the weather when I was here in July, 2017. I took this photo at sunrise, facing west. The skies above the Maroon Bells are filled with beautiful, threatening-looking clouds, but behind me, there was enough of an opening in the cloud cover to allow for the horizontal rays of light from the early-morning sunrise to illuminate the 14,000+ foot peaks of the Maroon Bells. Most shots of the Maroon Bells include a lake in the foreground, and while I also have this version of these majestic mountains, I thought a closeup of the mountains themselves, without the added distraction of adjacent peaks or a foreground lake might create some additional interest.
