Iceland is a small country with an even smaller population, so traveling through much of it provides a peaceful feeling of emptiness. This is especially true, though, in the most northwestern portion of the country, called the West Fjords. Although there are dozens of villages in the area, the population of the entire area is under 8,000, and accordingly, one can frequently drive long distances without seeing another vehicle. It was on a drive on a dirt road through the West Fjords that I came upon this stunning waterfall immediately next to the road. If this waterfall were in Kansas, people would drive hundreds of miles to see it, but, this being Iceland, it didn't even have a name.
