Argentina
I spent almost a month in Patagonia in late 2019 and early 2020, and most of that time was spent in Chile, as opposed to Argentina. The roads were, for the most part, great. But there were portions that … uh … weren't. I'm fairly certain that by the time I make it back, this unpaved section of road in Argentina will be perfect blacktop, which will have positive and negative consequences on tourism in the area. At the moment I took this picture, right at sunset, I was mentally done with unpaved roads. I'd been driving on one for the better part of a couple days, and felt like my teeth were ready to shake loose. Looking back on it, now, it's easy to laugh and smile, but at the time … oof. Putting all that aside, these were some of the prettiest clouds I'd ever seen. Available in the following sizes (Rectangle B): 12x8, 18x12, 24x16, 30x20, 36x24, 45x30, 60x40, 72x48.
Argentina's amazing Perito Moreno glacier can be viewed in several different ways. Some visitors trek on the glacier itself. Although I've wandered around on a few different glaciers in other countries, due to time constraints, I was unable to do so during my 2020 visit here. Other visitors go on a cruise in the lake below. I was fortunate enough to do this, and some of my other photos of Perito Moreno were taken on one such cruise. Finally, there's a series of trails and boardwalks beyond the end of the glacier that provide views of it from different elevations and angles. I took this photo from a boardwalk, and my intention was to show the glacial wall as it plunged several hundred feet into the icy waters below, disappearing off into the distance. I took several versions of this shot with different amounts of glacier, water below, and background. It was mostly dumb-luck that allowed me to capture this perfectly framed image at the same time as an Andean condor – the largest bird in the world by combined measurement of weight and wingspan – flew by. Available in the following sizes (Rectangle B): 12x8, 18x12, 24x16, 30x20, 36x24, 45x30, 60x40, 72x48.

Argentina's Perito Moreno glacier is simply stunning. Although you can't tell from this photo, the glacier comes down for miles from a mountain chain, and ends in a glacial lake. I went on a cruise in this lake, and brought a few cameras with different focal length lenses with me, because I wasn't sure whether wide-angle photos emphasizing the vastness of the glacier would work better, or closeups detailing the intricacies of the cubic miles of ice would prove to be better subject matter. In the end, they both worked in their own ways. This shot was taken head-on, but it is hard to get a sense of scale. The glacial wall here is roughly two hundred feet tall. Available in the following sizes (Panorama B): 30x12, 40x16, 50x20, 60x24, 75x30, 75x30 Triptych (3 x 25x30), 90x36, 90x36 Triptych (3 x 30x36), 105x42, 105x42 Triptych (3 x 35x42), 120x48, 120x48 Triptych (3 x 40x48), 135x54 Triptych (3 x 45x54), 150x60 Triptych (3 x 50x60).

Some detail is visible in the glacier wall, and a bit of context is provided by the far away mountain in the background, but it is impossible to really sense the scale of the whole glacier. Trust me, it's big. Available in the following sizes (Panorama A): 20x10, 24x12, 32x16, 40x20, 48x24, 60x30, 60x30 Triptych (3 x 20x30), 72x36, 72x36 Triptych (3 x 24x36).

I've seen, and in some cases, walked on, glaciers in Canada, Alaska, Iceland, Nepal, New Zealand, Chile, Montana, and possibly other places. But none had quite the impact on me as Perito Moreno. It's possible to walk on the glacier, but I opted for a boat ride that took me right up to the ice walls that plummet hundreds of feet into the freezing water, below. It's hard to grasp the scale of this glacier, but one point of reference you can use is the boat visible in the lower right hand corner of the photo. That's a big boat, and it would be easy to completely overlook it without knowing it's there. An absolutely stunning location. Available in the following sizes (Panorama B): 30x12, 40x16, 50x20, 60x24, 75x30, 75x30 Triptych (3 x 25x30), 90x36, 90x36 Triptych (3 x 30x36), 105x42, 105x42 Triptych (3 x 35x42), 120x48, 120x48 Triptych (3 x 40x48), 135x54 Triptych (3 x 45x54), 150x60 Triptych (3 x 50x60).
My early 2020 trip to Patagonia was intended to be a photographic journey through some of the most beautiful and monumental scenery on the planet. And there's no doubt that it ticked those boxes. But I brought my gigantic wildlife lens with me as well, and hoped that I might see some animals here or there along the way. I ended up pleasantly surprised with the amount and variety of wildlife images I was able to capture on this trip, and perhaps my favorite wildlife encounter was with this young red fox I saw while on the road to Argentina's spectacular Perito Moreno glacier. He wasn't at all shy, and when I laid down on the (lightly-traveled) road to the glacier in order to shoot at eye-level, he seemed almost as interested in me as I was in him, thus allowing me to get this image of him seemingly staring directly into my eyes. I could have sat and watched him for days! Available in the following sizes (Rectangle A): 8x10, 11x14, 16x20, 20x24, 24x30.
