Seeing Double

One can usually tell when there is a bear around in a national park by what is happening with the traffic. If you find yourself in a standstill in Glacier National Park, there's a good chance there's a bear or bears somewhere close by. Such was the case when I hit a “traffic jam” in the Many Glacier area of Glacier National Park in the late summer of 2012. Two big grizzly bears were foraging for any calories they could find down by a lake a hundred or so yards from the road. I got out and watched as they approached each other. I didn't know whether there would be any kind of interaction, and there wasn't. They didn't even acknowledge each other, but even as they got as close as they are shown to be in this photo, they did nothing but carry on eating.
