Des Moines from the State Capitol

In the summer of 2019, I found myself in Des Moines, Iowa, in order to appear at an art show. As I'd made tradition the year before, I used this opportunity to photograph the city. I took this photo from the State Capitol – an unusual and beautiful building in its own right – shortly after a beautiful sunset, while there was still enough ambient light to light up the sky in a long exposure, while keeping the lit-up buildings nicely lit. Des Moines and the Martin Luther King Junior Bridge Panorama

In the summer of 2019, I found myself in Des Moines, Iowa, in order to appear at an art show. As I'd made tradition the year before, I used this opportunity to photograph the city. I took this photo from the East bank of the Des Moines River, just upstream of where it joins the Raccoon River, looking across the Martin Luther King Junior Parkway bridge, into downtown. This photo was taken well after sunset, but I left the lens open long enough to capture the little bit of remaining blue in the night sky, and keep the buildings and bridge in the photo properly lit.
