Canada
I took this shot from maybe 50 meters from the bear shown, and that was the closest I got to a bear, at least while out of the bus I was traveling in. This photo makes it look like he was just as interested in me as I was in him! Available in the following sizes (Rectangle A): 10x8, 14x11, 20x16, 24x20, 30x24, 40x30.
Churchill, Manitoba – With Ruins of the Ithaka
Getting this shot was a bit of an accident. The boat in the background – the “Ithaka” - wrecked on the shores of Hudson Bay in 1960, and is something of a Churchill landmark. I was tracking the bear in the bottom right of the photo, snapping away, and didn't even realize I'd captured him with the Ithaka behind him. AND there was another bear in the shot. I can't believe I didn't realize either of these things until a few minutes later, when I was looking through my recent shots. Sometimes things just work out. Available in the following sizes (Rectangle A): 10x8, 14x11, 20x16, 24x20, 30x24, 40x30.
I saw dozens of bears during my trip to Churchill in late 2018, and saw a couple mothers with cubs, but these were the only ones that got close enough for me to get any good photos. It was a blast watching them walk by. Mom didn't seem to want to slow down while walking by, so the cub, also called a coy (which means “cub of the year,” and means the cub was born this year) had to jog in order to keep up. It was beyond cute. Available in the following sizes (Rectangle B): 12x8, 18x12, 24x16, 30x20, 36x24.

I posted 11 polar bear shots from my 2018 trip to Churchill, and this is the only one where there is any kind of sunlight. The weather was very dreary for the duration of my time in the “Polar Bear Capitol of the World.” And this bear was going to enjoy it as much as possible by doing one of the things polar bears do best – napping. Available in the following sizes (Rectangle A): 10x8, 14x11, 20x16, 24x20, 30x24, 40x30.
Polar bears are the main draw for visitors to Churchill, but they aren't the only animals to call this land home. There are many bird species that migrate through the area, depending on the time of year, as well as red and arctic foxes. I wasn't lucky enough to see an arctic fox, but I did see a few red foxes, such as this beautiful guy. Available in the following sizes (Rectangle B): 12x8, 18x12, 24x16, 30x20.

I arrived in Churchill on October 29, 2018, and had a relaxing, do-nothing day before meeting my tour group on the morning of the 30th. From there, we spent almost every moment of daylight driving around near Churchill – the “Polar Bear Capitol of the World” - searching for bears. This was the first one I saw. I love the composition I was able to get here, with the blue sky above and the icy-cold waters of Hudson Bay contrasted beautifully with the gray rocks, white snow, and, of course, the bear walking into the frame. Available in the following sizes (Rectangle B): 8x12, 12x18, 16x24, 20x30, 24x36, 30x45.

Most of the polar bears I saw on my trip to Churchill, Manitoba, Canada, in late October, 2018 tended to either ignore me completely, or do their best to avoid me. This one, on the other hand, seemed curious about the bus I was in, and after getting up from an afternoon nap, walked right up to me. Available in the following sizes (Rectangle A): 10x8, 14x11, 20x16, 24x20, 30x24.

When I visited the Canadian Rockies in 2012, I had pretty bad luck with light at sunrise and sunset. Even so, Two Jack Lake was one of my favorite places to shoot. I knew I'd have to return to Two Jack during my 2016 trip in the Canadian Rockies, and I even found a different perspective from which to shoot the lake and Mt. Rundle. I used a polarizer in this photo in order to make the clouds more noticeable, and I really love this photo, especially considering it doesn't have the golden-hour light that I so often aim for in my landscape photography. Available in the following sizes (Rectangle B): 12x8, 18x12, 24x16, 30x20, 36x24, 45x30, 60x40, 72x48.
Sunset Reflection at Mount Rundle
I spent several evenings on the shore of Vermillion Lake, just outside of Banff, Alberta, hoping to get a great sunset shot. There were several evenings where the weather simply conspired against me, and I went back to my campground without a single shot. But I did finally get lucky on my last night in Banff, when the skies cleared and the setting sun turned the ever-present Mt. Rundle a wonderful shade of yellow. The perfectly smooth water of the lake provided for an almost glass-like reflection of this beautiful mountain. Available in the following sizes (Rectangle B): 12x8, 18x12, 24x16, 30x20, 36x24, 45x30, 60x40, 72x48, 80x54, 90x60.
Moonrise in the Canadian Rockies
Sometimes you are just in the right place at the right time. I knew a nearly-full moon was going to be rising a little bit before the sun set on the evening of September 12, 2016, but I was in the car and had a limited range of view because I was driving through a forest. Then, as I went around a corner, the road opened up a path through the forest in front of me, providing me with a perfect view of a newly-risen moon standing above a mountain face that was just beginning to glow with that wonderful pre-sunset light. It would have been difficult to consciously place myself somewhere with a better view. I'll take it! Available in the following sizes (Rectangle B): 12x8, 18x12, 24x16, 30x20, 36x24, 45x30, 60x40, 72x48.
