California
I visited a good friend of mine in Avalon, the only “city” on Catalina Island, a mostly undeveloped desert island off the coast of California, in the summer of 2021. The island is accessible by a one hour ferry ride from Los Angeles. To me, this photo looks much more like a southern European scene than anything in the US, but I guess looks can be deceiving. It really is a beautiful city. Available in the following sizes (Panorama B): 30x12, 40x16, 50x20, 60x24, 75x30, 75x30 Triptych (3 x 25x30), 90x36, 90x36 Triptych (3 x 30x36), 105x42, 105x42 Triptych (3 x 35x42), 120x48, 120x48 Triptych (3 x 40x48), 135x54 Triptych (3 x 45x54), 150x60 Triptych (3 x 50x60).
I made a quick trip to southern California in the summer of 2021 in order to visit a friend on Catalina Island. I'd started shooting cityscapes a few years earlier, but had yet to get a shot of San Diego, and this trip provided the perfect opportunity. Available in the following sizes (Panorama C): 30x10, 36x12, 48x16, 60x20, 72x24, 90x30, 90x30 Triptych (3 x 30x30), 108x36, 108x36 Triptych (3 x 36x36), 120x40, 120x40 Triptych Triptych (3 x 40x40), 144x48 Triptych (3 x 48x48), 162x54 Triptych (3 x 54x54), 180x60 Triptych (3 x 60x60).

I'd never heard of Scripps Pier until I met someone who'd seen a Peter Lik photo of this iconic La Jolla location and wanted a photo. I didn't have one at the moment he made the request, but coincidentally, I had a trip planned to San Diego and Catalina Island for the following month. I decided I ought to go there and give it a shot. It turned out to be even more beautiful than I had hoped. Available in the following sizes (Rectangle A): 8x10, 11x14, 16x20, 20x24, 24x30, 30x40, 40x50, 48x60.

When driving from a show in California to a show in Arizona during the fall of 2019, I had an extra day, and decided to spend it in one of my favorite National Parks – Death Valley. Although miserable in the summer, the temperature is usually pleasant in late October, such as it was when I was there. I only had one morning to shoot, but I got the most of it, shooting primarily in the Mesquite Flat Dunes, shown here. San Francisco is one of the more modern skylines in America, and, in my opinion, one of the prettiest. But San Francisco is associated to such a degree with the Golden Gate Bridge, that almost any search for a photo of San Francisco will return images of the bridge, with the city, perhaps, as an afterthought. I wanted to get a photo of downtown San Francisco without its most famous icon, and a bit of research led me to the top of Twin Peaks, where I took this photo. I think it turned out spectacularly! Available in the following sizes (Panorama C): 20x10, 24x12, 32x16, 40x20, 48x24, 60x30, 60x30 Triptych (3 x 20x30), 72x36, 72x36 Triptych (3 x 24x36), 80x40, 80x40 Triptych (3 x 27x40), 96x48, 96x48 Triptych (3 x 32x48), 108x54, 108x54 Triptych (3 x 36x54), 120x60, 120x60 Triptych (3 x 40x60).
The Golden Gate Bridge has been shot to death, but this doesn't make it any less beautiful. I was lucky enough to be in the San Francisco area when there was a full moon, and I found a location from which I was able to capture the Golden Gate Bridge, downtown San Francisco, and the nearly full moon in a single frame. I couldn't have asked for better lighting than I got on the night I took this photo. I went on a Pacific Northwest trip during the summer of 2018, in which I intended only on shooting Oregon, Washington, and Idaho. But, as they often do, my plans changed. I ended up missing Idaho, but got a bit of Northern California thrown into the mix. The coastline in Northern California is spectacular, and although I hadn't planned in advance on visiting False Klamath Cove, this photo that I took there, shortly before sunset, ended up being on of my favorites from the entire trip! Available in the following sizes (Panorama A): 10x20, 12x24, 16x32, 20x40, 24x48, 30x60, 30x60 Triptych (3 x 30x20), 36x72, 36x72 Triptych (3 x 36x24), 40x80, 40x80 Triptych (3 x 40x27), 48x96, 48x96 Triptych (3 x 48x32), 54x108, 54x108 Triptych (3 x 54x36), 60x120, 60x120 Triptych (3 x 60x40).
During the summer of 2018, I went on a long-overdue tour of the Pacific Northwest. My original intention was to shoot Oregon and Washington exclusively, but my route took me through Northern California, and when I saw I was only a couple hours from Redwoods National Park, I spontaneously added it to my itinerary. Forests are difficult to photograph because of the lack of simple shapes and patterns. Everything is complicated and points in all kinds of crazy directions. In this photo, I tried to minimize the foreground and bring attention to the height of these giants. And while shooting into the sun is usually a no-no in photography, I was able to place the sun mostly behind a branch, which created the sunstar effect seen here. Available in the following sizes (Rectangle B): 8x12, 12x18, 16x24, 20x30, 24x36, 30x45, 40x60, 48x72.

Forests are difficult to photograph because of the lack of simple shapes and patterns. Everything is complicated and points in all kinds of crazy directions. In this shot, I attempted to single out one tree from many, and by including the eye-level base of the tree, as well as the sky, I intended to provide some feeling of scale. But that has proven to be something of an impossible task. Until you've visited the redwoods, it is impossible to explain their size. It cannot truly be grasped until one has seen these spectacular trees in person. So what are you waiting for? Get out there! Winter in Kings Canyon National Park
The highlight of a visit to Kings Canyon and Sequoia National Parks, in California's spectacular Sierra Nevada mountain range, must be the giant sequoias, also known as giant redwoods. These trees grow to an average height of 164 to 279 feet, and an average diameter of 20 to 26 feet. They can live for more than 3,000 years. I was lucky enough to visit these giants in April, 2018, and expected spring conditions. I was thrilled (and cold) when it snowed, though, completely transforming the sights available. Another one of those instances of dumb luck making all the difference in the world. I only had one or two days in Kings Canyon and Sequoia National Parks, in California's Sierra Nevada mountain range. I was there in mid-April, and anticipated spring conditions. Although the unexpected snow made it cold, and made camping that much less comfortable, it was a blessing, overall, since my photos certainly wouldn't have turned out as well if there had been blue skies and green grass. The tree in this photo is the General Grant Tree, in King's Canyon National Park, and it is the second largest tree in the world. It has a diameter of just under 30 feet at its base, and it stretches 267 feet into the air. It's pretty big. Available in the following sizes (Panorama C): 10x30, 12x36, 16x48, 20x60, 24x72, 30x90, 30x90 Triptych (3 x 30x30), 36x108, 36x108 Triptych (3 x 36x36), 40x120, 40x120 Triptych (3 x 40x40), 48x144 Triptych (3 x 48x48), 54x162 Triptych (3 x 54x54), 60x180 Triptych (3 x 60x60).
Vernal Falls is another Yosemite icon, but it is one that actually requires a bit of a hike to reach. I was lucky to have the weather I did for this hike, because the sunlight was powerful enough to create the rainbow made by the mist generated by Vernal Falls' 318 foot drop. Available in the following sizes (Square): 10x10, 12x12, 16x16, 20x20, 24x24, 30x30, 36x36, 42x42, 48x48, 54x54, 60x60.
