I visited a bunch of big, American cities on a whirlwind tour of the northeast and Midwest United States, during the fall of 2018. I had one evening in Washington, D.C., and I spent it wandering the National Mall, taking photos of the famous buildings and memorials. One of the advantages to visiting the National Mall at night is that there aren't a million tourists wandering about, so it is possible to photograph famous sights without crowds. This statue is of the sixteenth President of the United States, Abraham Lincoln. Available in the following sizes (Rectangle B): 8x12, 12x18, 16x24, 20x30, 24x36, 30x45, 40x60, 48x72.
Albuquerque International Balloon Festival 2017 2
I participated in an art show in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on one of the weekends in October, 2017 that coincided with the massive Albuquerque International Balloon Festival, which is touted as the most photographed event on the planet. The gallery from which I was showing my work was only a couple miles from the take-off site, but the scale of this event, along with the timing of the show and the launch times of the balloons made it almost impossible to shoot the event from where I'd hoped to. But I did manage to find an accessible location to get this shot, which gives some idea of the number of balloons that launch each day of this unbelievable event. Available in the following sizes (Rectangle B): 12x8, 18x12, 24x16, 30x20, 36x24, 45x30, 60x40.

There are a lot of small parks and beaches in and around Tampa, Florida, but Sand Key Park, in Clearwater – a coastal suburb of Tampa – is considered one of the most beautiful. The clean, white sand is trampled throughout the day by a significant number of beachgoers, but by sunset (in the right season, anyway), the crowds dwindle away, and a relatively empty beach remains. On the night that I visited, I was lucky enough to be there just as a touristh ship went by as the sun set. Available in the following sizes (Rectangle B): 12x8, 18x12, 24x16, 30x20, 36x24, 45x30
Eagle Master Khairat Khan is a bit of a celebrity in the world of Eagle Hunters. There was a 2005 movie made about his trade, titled “Kiran Over Mongolia,” which means “Golden Eagle Over Mongolia.” Although we were unable to see him fly or hunt with his new eagle – he'd released his old eagle only four days before our arrival – we were able to spend two days with him and learn about his life and the lifestyles of Kazah Eagle Masters. A truly wonderful and sobering experience. Available in the following sizes (Rectangle B): 12x8, 18x12, 24x16, 30x20, 36x24, 45x30.

I liked the composition of this photo even before the kid ran through my shot. In fact, I took a photo a second or two earlier without the kid running through, and I probably would have released that photo if I hadn't gotten this one immediately after. I'm not much of a photojournalist / portrait / people photographer, but every now and then I get lucky! Available in the following sizes (Rectangle B): 12x8, 18x12, 24x16, 30x20, 36x24.
I visited the far west region of Mongolia in late May, 2015, and my itinerary involved me going camping very close to the Mongolia / Russia / China border at a mountain lake. It would have taken the better part of a day to hike to the lake from the yurt in the steppe in which we'd stayed the night before, but nature had other plans. After walking for a mile or two as conditions got worse and worse, we ultimately made the (probably-wise) decision to turn around. I took this photo just before this decision was reached. Available in the following sizes (Rectangle A): 10x8, 14x11, 20x16, 24x20, 30x24.
Tourism in Mongolia is unlike anywhere else I've traveled. The industry is new and small. While tour groups with English-speaking guides may exist, I went with a bit more “authentic” (difficult?) experience during my 2015 visit, and traveled for a few days just east of Ulaanbaatar with a driver who spoke only a tiny bit more English than I speak Mongolian (none). Accordingly, I frequently didn't know what to look for, where we were going, or what was going on. But this was fine and added to the adventure. If I wanted to stop, I could make that clear, and when, during a drive through the steppe, I saw this guy on horseback chasing down other horses, I requested that we stop, and I spent a few minutes taking photos. I'm not sure what was going on beyond the obvious, but it was great to see. Available in the following sizes (Rectangle B): 12x8, 18x12, 24x16, 30x20.
Xing Ping is a pretty Chinese village located on both shores of the Lijiang River. Not too long ago, fishermen in the village would catch fish using cormorants with necklaces that limited their ability to swallow fish above a certain size. The fishermen would then save the fish that were too large for the cormorants to swallow. Although this tradition is no longer in active use, the village celebrates its fishing heritage with performances showing how things used to be done. Available in the following sizes (Rectangle A): 10x8, 14x11, 20x16, 24x20, 30x24.
Angkor Wat is a phenomenal place for photography, and sunrise is a particularly popular time to shoot this world-famous ruin. A few miles away lies another temple called “The Bayon,” which, in my opinion, although much smaller than Angkor Wat, itself, is just as, and perhaps even more beautiful. So I elected to go there one morning at sunrise, and to my surprise, here, in this incredibly touristy location, were a dozen or so monks performing their morning rituals. I was the only tourist around, and it was a powerful experience to be present for such an authentic experience. Available in the following sizes (Rectangle B): 8x10, 11x14, 16x20, 20x24, 24x30, 30x40.
In my opinion, Loha Phasat is one of the most underrated structures in Bangkok. In a city with so many temples with gold, dome or spire rooftops, it was nice to find one with a bit of a different look to it, which is exactly what happened when I stumbled upon Loha Phasat. All the spires here were black, instead of the traditional gold, but upon looking this temple up to write this little story, I discovered that since I took this photo, all these spires have been painted gold, in the traditional style. It looks great either way. Look in the lower, right hand corner of this photo to see a monk listening to a radio straight out of the 1950s. Available in the following sizes (Rectangle B): 12x8, 18x12, 24x16, 30x20, 36x24, 45x30.
Sunrise Canoe Ride in Chitwan National Park
When most people think of Nepal, they think of the highest mountains on the planet. The southern portion of the country, however, is much lower, and the environment, as well as the culture of the area reflects this difference. I went on a journey to Chitwan National Park, approximately 60 miles geographically but worlds apart in terms of day-to-day life from the madness of Kathmandu. Life here was much slower, as symbolized by the lazy paddling of a canoe through Chitwan National Park at sunrise. Available in the following sizes (Rectangle B): 12x8, 18x12, 24x16, 30x20, 36x24, 45x30.
I took this photo on the 30th day (of 35) of my Everest Base Camp trek in November and December of 2011. The Nepali people who live in the Himalayas don't have roads, motorcycles, or cars, and so everything that is moved around the region is done on the backs of people or pack animals. Shown here are two Nepali women with the traditional baskets used by the people of the area to move everything from food to furniture. Available in the following sizes (Rectangle B): 8x12, 12x18, 16x24, 20x30, 24x36.
