Night / Moon / Star Photos
Alright, alright … this was actually taken at moonset, not moonrise, but “Moonset at Glacier” just doesn't have quite the same ring to it. Anyway, I took this photo from the shores of Lake McDonald in Glacier National Park shortly after sunrise. I turned the exposure down quite a bit in order to maintain the detail in the moon. Upon looking at this photo a bit more closely, you might see a small hut and some type of electronics tower on the peak to the left. Available in the following sizes (Rectangle B): 12x8, 18x12, 24x16, 30x20, 36x24, 45x30.
My early 2020 visit to Thailand was split roughly 50/50 between the northern cities of Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai, and the southern, beaches-and-islands area of Krabi. Located a short drive outside of Chiang Mai lies Wat Phra That Doi Suthep Temple. This temple is one of the most popular spots for Chiang Mai tourists to visit, and knowing this, I decided to make it my last stop of the day, so that, in theory, the temple grounds would have less people and be more easily photographed. This did turn out to be correct, but getting this photo was not as simple as finding a spot and snapping the photo – I had to do a lot of waiting to get this frame free of people. But with the bright, gold finish contrasting so beautifully against the sky at dusk, my patience certainly paid off. Available in the following sizes (Rectangle A): 8x10, 11x14, 16x20, 20x24, 24x30, 30x40, 40x50, 48x60.
Talat Rotfai Night Market Panorama
I visited Thailand in February 2020, just before the world went up in flames. The only time I'd been to Bangkok before was in 2012, and on that visit, I somehow didn't make it to the famous Talat Rotfai Night Market. That wasn't a mistake I was going to make twice. Although a bit on the tourist side (read: overpriced), the market is a fun place to wander and people watch. And although it is overpriced, it's still reasonable by American standards. The trickiest part of the night was finding the location to take this photo. Right next to the market is an enormous shopping mall that looks out at the market, but getting a good angle is tough. It turns out the best spot to photograph the market is from the highest-accessible level of the mall's attached parking garage. Yup, I took this photo from a parking garage. Available in the following sizes (Panorama C): 30x10, 36x12, 48x16, 60x20, 72x24, 90x30, 90x30 Triptych (3 x 30x30), 108x36, 108x36 Triptych (3 x 36x36), 120x40, 120x40 Triptych Triptych (3 x 40x40), 144x48 Triptych (3 x 48x48).
I'd been dreaming of seeing and photographing these mountains for years, when I was finally in a position to do so on the evening of December 30, 2019. I had a few days to spend in Patagonia's Torres del Paine National Park, and took some photos of this mountain range at sunset. But I must have had a bit too much adrenaline in my system from the joy of capturing the images, because when I drove off to find a camp spot for the night, I didn't immediately notice my camper van was behaving a bit unusually. A mile or two later, I pulled over and learned I'd been driving on a flat tire. And this was the view I had when I changed the tire. I didn't finish until after dark, and that's when this image was captured. A long exposure allowed the last bit of the day's light, as well as moon- and starlight to illuminate the Torres del Paine range. Look carefully in the sky and you'll notice some star trails. Available in the following sizes (Panorama B): 30x12, 40x16, 50x20, 60x24, 75x30, 75x30 Triptych (3 x 25x30), 90x36, 90x36 Triptych (3 x 30x36), 105x42, 105x42 Triptych (3 x 35x42), 120x48, 120x48 Triptych (3 x 40x48), 135x54 Triptych (3 x 45x54), 150x60 Triptych (3 x 50x60).
The Golden Gate Bridge has been shot to death, but this doesn't make it any less beautiful. I was lucky enough to be in the San Francisco area when there was a full moon, and I found a location from which I was able to capture the Golden Gate Bridge, downtown San Francisco, and the nearly full moon in a single frame. I couldn't have asked for better lighting than I got on the night I took this photo. Available in the following sizes (Panorama A): 30x10, 36x12, 48x16, 60x20, 72x24, 90x30, 90x30 Triptych (3 x 30x30), 108x36, 108x36 Triptych (3 x 36x36), 120x40, 120x40 Triptych Triptych (3 x 40x40), 144x48 Triptych (3 x 48x48), 162x54 Triptych (3 x 54x54), 180x60 Triptych (3 x 60x60).
My favorite views of Southwest Utah's Bryce Canyon National Park are from the south, at Inspiration Point, and Bryce Point. When I came to visit in late February, 2019, the park was buried under far more snow than is typical, and both of these viewpoints were, at least when I arrived, closed. By my second morning in the park, though, Bryce Point was made reachable, and I made it a point to arrive here well before sunrise. I took this photo shortly before the sun came up, and used a long enough exposure to capture the light necessary to see what the park looks like when illuminated primarily by moonlight. By the time I finished shooting here, my fingers were getting numb, but with a capture like this one, it was well worth it. Available in the following sizes (Rectangle B): 12x8, 18x12, 24x16, 30x20, 36x24, 45x30, 60x40, 72x48, 80x54, 90x60.
One of my best friends used to lived in Da Peng, a suburb of Shenzhen, China, just across the border from Hong Kong. I visited this friend in late 2018, and used the opportunity to photograph some of the interesting places in the region, including Dapeng Fortress, which was constructed in 1394, and stands today as something of a living museum. Some hundreds (perhaps thousands) of people still live there, but it is also something of a local tourist spot. The cobblestone streets are too narrow for vehicles, so one can get around only by foot or on bicycle. The shops cater to tourists, primarily selling food, drinks, and knickknacks. Walking around the city at night feels like taking a step back in time. Available in the following sizes (Rectangle A): 10x8, 14x11, 20x16, 24x20, 30x24, 40x30, 50x40, 60x48.

Hong Kong has been one of my favorite cities on the planet since the first time I laid eyes upon it, way back in 2005. I've returned several times since then, and before visiting in 2018, I'd seen some interesting photos taken at an apartment complex called the Montane Mansion. My visit there yielded some great photos that are quite unlike my typical photography. I used a long exposure to get the buildings vividly lit, and the clouds slightly blurred as they slowly moved across the night sky. Available in the following sizes (Rectangle B): 12x8, 18x12, 24x16, 30x20, 36x24, 45x30, 60x40, 72x48, 80x54, 90x60.

I visited a bunch of big, American cities on a whirlwind tour of the northeast and Midwest United States, during the fall of 2018. I had one evening in Washington, D.C., and I spent it wandering the National Mall, taking photos of the famous buildings and memorials. It was a fairly dismal night, which resulted in a very moody sky. The structure shown here is the Jefferson Memorial, which commemorates Thomas Jefferson, the main drafter and writer of the Declaration of Independence, and the third President of the United States. Available in the following sizes (Rectangle B): 12x8, 18x12, 24x16, 30x20, 36x24, 45x30, 60x40, 72x48.
