SDMG (South Dakota Morning Glory)
I don't often go out looking for flowers to photograph, but I occasionally come across some while I have my macro lens and flash handy, and if the flower is pretty enough and the lighting good, I'll sometimes spend the time to get some macro photos. The use of a macro lens allowed me to make this flower look much larger than it actually is. This is a morning glory, and it was probably about the same size as a quarter. Available in the following sizes (Rectangle B): 12x8, 18x12, 24x16, 30x20, 36x24, 45x30, 60x40.
Macro photography can be a lot of fun. Walking around with a macro lens makes one think about his or her surroundings in a different way. A leaf or pebble that might otherwise not catch ones attention can suddenly become the most interesting thing in the world. And flowers are always interesting, but they become even more so when viewed through a macro lens. Details one may otherwise never notice are suddenly huge. This flower was blooming on a cactus. Available in the following sizes (Rectangle B): 12x8, 18x12, 24x16, 30x20, 36x24, 45x30, 60x40.
Although I enjoy photographing flowers, I rarely go out of my way to do so. But when I came across this big, beautiful hibiscus while on the Big Island of Hawai'i in late 2018, I took the time to get a proper photo. I'm usually drawn to much more vividly-colored flowers than this nearly white hibiscus, but somehow, the pale, subdued colors really worked out in this photo. Available in the following sizes (Rectangle A): 10x8, 14x11, 20x16, 24x20, 30x24, 40x30.
I went to Hawai'i in late 2018 with the goal of photographing some inspiring and colorful beach scenes, hopefully some waterfalls, and maybe some other seascapes. I hoped to photograph some wildlife, as well, but didn't make any plans with this as an objective. I figured if I came across any particularly interesting animals, I'd deal with them in the moment. Such was the case when I stumbled across this gold dust day gecko on the Big Island. Native to Madagascar, they made their way to Hawai'i at some point, and I suppose are considered an invasive species. It's a shame, because they're simply beautiful animals! Available in the following sizes (Rectangle A): 8x10, 11x14, 16x20, 20x24, 24x30.

Although I enjoy photographing flowers, I rarely go out of my way to do so. But when I came across this big, beautiful hibiscus while on the Big Island of Hawai'i in late 2018, I took the time to get a proper photo. Yellow and blue are complementary colors, so they go together quite well. Thus, the yellow flower and blue sky. Available in the following sizes (Rectangle A): 10x8, 14x11, 20x16, 24x20, 30x24, 40x30, 50x40.
A closeup of one of the icebergs that washed ashore from Jokulsarlon Iceberg Lagoon, in southern Iceland. Certainly more abstract (and less colorful) than my usual work, I enjoy the patterns, lines, shapes, and contrast here. Available in the following sizes (Rectangle B): 12x8, 18x12, 24x16, 30x20, 36x24, 45x30, 60x40, 72x48
I suppose it makes sense for flowers to grow as far north as Canada and Alaska, but I'd never really given it much thought until my trip to this area in the summer of 2016. The city of Dawson is a cute, little gold-rush town that thrives, today, as a tourist spot along the famous Alcan Highway, taking travelers through Alberta, British Columbia, and the Yukon Territory en route to Alaska. The city has a lot of historical buildings, including the commissioner's home, which hasn't been inhabited for close to a century, but is beautifully maintained as a historical site. The garden in front is kept as it was during the city's heyday, and one of the flowers that seems to grow best in the region is this species of poppy, which filled a large portion of the gardens in the region. Available in the following sizes (Rectangle B): 12x8, 18x12, 24x16, 30x20, 36x24.
The landscape photography I do typically takes place at sunrise and sunset. Mid-day light isn't usually any good for creating dramatic scenes, but I do like to shoot wildlife and flowers in the middle of the day. I shot these thyme-leaved bluets in early summer, in Tennessee's Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Available in the following sizes (Rectangle B): 12x8, 18x12, 24x16, 30x20, 36x24, 45x30.
I took this photo of a beautiful, white lily in Louisiana's Fairview-Riversside State Park. I shot towards the sky, and used a partially overcast sky to give the gray background that serves to almost make this photo look like a painting. Available in the following sizes (Rectangle A): 10x8, 14x11, 20x16, 24x20, 30x24.
I stopped at a ranger station in Lake Mead National Recreation Area, Nevada, for a recommendation on places to photograph during my drive through the area. The station turned out to be closed, but there was an attractive flower garden that provided me a bit of entertainment. These wild heliotropes were in full bloom when I was here, in mid-March, 2016. Available in the following sizes (Rectangle B): 8x12, 12x18, 16x24, 20x30, 24x36.
Perhaps the most distinguishing feature of the wolf spider is the large eyes. I took this photo after finding him out hunting in the middle of the night. The beam of my headlight had passed over him, and the light reflected off his eyes and back to me, allowing me to easily find him in a dark environment. They use their large eyes and impressive eyesight to hunt small insects. Available in the following sizes (Rectangle A): 10x8, 14x11, 20x16, 24x20, 30x24.
The fantastic bloom I experienced in Death Valley National Park in February, 2016, allowed for many species of wildflowers to appear in this otherwise dead part of the world for a short time. One species of flower that came to life during this special time was the blue phacelia, shown here. Available in the following sizes (Rectangle B): 12x8, 18x12, 24x16, 30x20, 36x24.
The Butterfly Pavilion, in Westminster, Colorado, is home to over 5000 animals, and is just about the best place in the world to hang out, up close, with more butterflies than you could otherwise ever hope to see. The guy in this photo is a mormon butterfly. Available in the following sizes (Rectangle B): 12x8, 18x12, 24x16, 30x20, 36x24, 45x30.

When I first took this photo, in Natchez National Historical Park, in Natchez, Mississippi, I zoomed in on my camera's viewfinder and was surprised and a bit confused by the yellow spheres stuck all over the bee. I then took a macro (close-up) photo of a nearby flower, and found that the pollen covering the flower was identical in shape and color. Guess I solved that mystery! Available in the following sizes (Rectangle A): 10x8, 14x11, 20x16, 24x20.
Reaching up to two inches in size, wolf spiders are one of the more frightening looking spiders in the United States, and while they are poisonous, they're also not aggressive, so one doesn't really need to worry about being bitten unless you are doing something silly – like deliberately provoking one. They live all over, and I frequently find them at night, which is when they do most of their hunting. If you walk around with a headlamp or flashlight, you may see little gem-like reflections on the ground. Upon closer inspection, you may find a wolf spider. The reflection is from their oversized eyes. Available in the following sizes (Rectangle B): 12x8, 18x12, 24x16, 30x20, 36x24.
President Roosevelt had a cottage in New Brunswick which is now an International Park, and the gardens there are superb, with many types of flowers. Dahlias of many different sizes and colors were on display when I visited, including this one which had a diameter of roughly eight inches. Available in the following sizes (Rectangle B): 12x8, 18x12, 24x16, 30x20, 36x24.
