During a week between art shows in Wyoming and Montana, I decided to visit a place I'd never been before – Bighorn Canyon National Recreation Area, less than a hundred miles east of Yellowstone National Park, on the Wyoming / Montana border. The scenery here was much more reminiscent of the American Southwest than what I think of when I visualize Wyoming or Montana. It was a refreshing change of pace, and the crowds here were minuscule compared to what I've come to expect in the more popular National Parks in this part of the country. This view is somewhat similar to Horseshoe Bend (in northern Arizona) or Dead Horse Point (eastern Utah), but what makes this viewpoint different is that on the left side of the photo, you can see that this bend takes place where two rivers (Porcupine Creek and Bighorn River) converge before continuing downstream as the Bighorn River. Oh, and there are wild horses all over this area! Available in the following sizes (Panorama A): 20x10, 24x12, 32x16, 40x20, 48x24, 60x30, 60x30 Triptych (3 x 20x30), 72x36, 72x36 Triptych (3 x 24x36), 80x40, 80x40 Triptych (3 x 27x40), 96x48, 96x48 Triptych (3 x 32x48), 108x54, 108x54 Triptych (3 x 36x54), 120x60, 120x60 Triptych (3 x 40x60).
By 2022, I'd shot most of the big, famous photo locations throughout Utah. But there is so much beautiful public land in this spectacular state, that it would take a lifetime to see everything. I was driving through in the spring of 2022, and wanted to explore some less well-known locations. I'd seen photos online of “Zebra Slot,” and after some quick research, off I went, in the middle of the day, to check it out. Pro tip: landscapes generally look their best (or at least most dramatic) at sunrise and / or sunset, but canyons – and slot canyons especially – look best in the middle of the day. The scale of the canyon is a bit difficult to make out from this photo, but I'll say that I'm glad I am pretty thin. Getting to the end of the slot required me to turn sideways and shimmy along, scraping my tripod and cameras on the rock walls along the way. But it was all worth it, because I simply love the photos I got here. Available in the following sizes (Panorama A): 10x20, 12x24, 16x32, 20x40, 24x48, 30x60, 30x60 Triptych (3 x 30x20), 36x72, 36x72 Triptych (3 x 36x24), 40x80, 40x80 Triptych (3 x 40x27), 48x96, 48x96 Triptych (3 x 48x32).

Great Sand Dunes National Park, in south central Colorado, is a fun spot to visit. Well, it usually is. I was there in early September, 2020, when winds like none I'd experienced before in Colorado came through. I was camping in the National Park Campground, and had intended to continue my camping trip for the next week or so, but greatly-reduced visibility caused by the worst wildfires in state history, combined with the just-mentioned winds caused me to re-think my plans, and ultimately cancel the last week of my planned trip. I took this photo on my way out of the park, and heard later that day that the Parks Service had to close the campground and kick everyone out because of the dangers associated with the insane wind. Available in the following sizes (Rectangle B): 12x8, 18x12, 24x16, 30x20, 36x24, 45x30.
A spontaneous trip to Glacier National Park in the summer of 2020 took me through some parts of Wyoming and Montana that I'd never seen before, including the “Hell's Half Acre” roadside stop. Kind of in the middle of nowhere in Wyoming, it is a great place to get out and stretch one's legs, and perhaps have a snack or some lunch. This place looks strikingly like the more famous Badlands National Park in South Dakota. Check out my images from there and see if you can tell them apart! Available in the following sizes (Rectangle B): 12x8, 18x12, 24x16, 30x20, 36x24, 45x30, 60x40, 72x48.

I spent less than 24 hours in South Dakota's Badlands National Park during the summer of 2020. This allowed me one sunset and one sunrise for photography. I had spectacular lighting at sunrise, but such lighting only lasts for a brief time. I took this photo during the last few minutes of sunrise while the horizontal rays of light still saturated the surrounding landscapes in shocking shades of orange and pink. I think this photo does a great job of encapsulating the beauty of America's 38th National Park. Available in the following sizes (Rectangle B): 12x8, 18x12, 24x16, 30x20, 36x24, 45x30, 60x40, 72x48.

I was extraordinarily lucky to have such perfect conditions at sunrise, when I was photographed the Yellow Mounds area of Badlands. Direct, horizontal sunlight plus clouds above always makes for great landscape lighting. I took this photo on one of the least driven roads I've ever had the pleasure of exploring. Capitol Reef National Park, in south central Utah, is already in the middle of nowhere, but most visitors to Capitol Reef only see the portion of it that is accessible by paved road. I stumbled upon a dirt road that allows one access to the extremely isolated southern portion of the park during a Nevada / Utah trip in 2020, and I'm happy to report it is spectacular. But don't tell anyone, I don't want the secret getting out! Available in the following sizes (Panorama C): 30x10, 36x12, 48x16, 60x20, 72x24, 90x30, 90x30 Triptych (3 x 30x30), 108x36, 108x36 Triptych (3 x 36x36), 120x40, 120x40 Triptych Triptych (3 x 40x40), 144x48 Triptych (3 x 48x48), 162x54 Triptych (3 x 54x54), 180x60 Triptych (3 x 60x60).

I've taken a lot of scenic drives, but to this day, Utah 12 remains in my top two (the other is Canada's Icefields Parkway). Beginning near Bryce Canyon National Park and continuing 123 miles before finishing near Capitol Reef National Park, it goes through some of the least densely populated parts of the country, and offers about a billion side trips, parks (National, State etc.) and views. I've driven Utah 12 probably five or so times, and it seems that each time, I find somewhere new to explore. Such was the case when I drove it in mid 2020, and stumbled upon a side road called the Burr Trail, which connects Boulder, Utah, to the southern portion of Capitol Reef National Park. It was on this road that I got this photo. I don't want to spoil it any more. It's a beautiful drive. Somewhere near the halfway point, there's a pull off that I stop at every time I go on this drive, and it is from this pull off that I took this photo. I've visited Zion many times, and it is always beautiful. I took this photo while visiting the park during the COVID-19 pandemic in mid-2020, while major portions of the park remained closed. This also meant less visitors than usual, but not by as big a margin as I would have imagined. A bridge goes over the Virgin River, and it is a famous spot for photography, but I believe they stopped allowing people to shoot from the bridge recently – I only found out after I'd taken this photo, and a Park Ranger drove by and informed me (and some other photographers) that pedestrians aren't allowed on the bridge. Bummer! Oh well, at least I got the shot. Available in the following sizes (Rectangle B): 12x8, 18x12, 24x16, 30x20, 36x24, 45x30, 60x40, 72x48, 80x54.
When the 2020 COVID-19 stay-at-home orders came to an end, I hopped in my van and made my way to Nevada. The emptiness of Nevada is something to behold. It's a strange feeling to drive along some of the loneliest highways on the planet, but it was while I was doing just this that I came across a herd of bighorn sheep. A few of them were nice enough to pose for me. Available in the following sizes (Rectangle A): 8x10, 11x14, 16x20, 20x24, 24x30, 30x40, 40x50.

When the 2020 COVID-19 stay-at-home orders came to an end, I hopped in my van and made my way to Nevada. After visiting Great Basin National Park, my intention was to go to Lake Tahoe, but the sheer number of RVs on the road made it obvious that I wasn't the only one with this idea, and not wanting to be around so many people, I adjusted my plans and went instead to northwest Nevada's Black Rock Desert. It's a strange place – Burning Man is held here every year, and the overwhelming emptiness of the place can be overpowering. If you ever want to get away from everyone, you may want to put Black Rock Desert on your short list.
