Having grown up in Colorado, the birds I'm used to seeing on a regular basis are , while pretty, quite boring compared to those in Australia. I never gave any thought to the fact that there are places on this wonderful planet where parrots, cockatoos, and the like aren't exotic, but natural inhabitants of the area. I'd never seen a bird like this guy – a blue-faced honeyeater - before I visited Eungella National Park, in New South Wales. Just one of the hundreds of unusual – to my eyes – and beautiful birds that populate this island country.
