Many people are surprised to learn that the most dangerous large (i.e. not mosquito) animal in Africa – at least by total people killed by said animal in a given year – is not the lion, elephant, or leopard, but the hippopotamus. Seeing one yawn, like in this photo, gives one an idea of how deadly this creature can be if it wants to. They're quite territorial, and can run at speeds up to 20 miles per hour. Those teeth are a bit on the scary side, too.
