I had been told of a particular road in Everglades National Park, in South Florida, where one can reliably spot barred owls, on my first day in the park in 2016. The next morning, I went there first thing, and was thrilled to find several of these beautiful birds perched in trees on the sides of the road. They waited patiently for crawdads to crawl across the road, at which point they would swoop down, and enjoy a (presumably) delicious meal. Here's one of those very owls, posing perfectly as he waited for his breakfast to make an appearance.
